State Data Center

The State Data Center on Aging (SDCA) began in 1999 with funding for a center director from Florida General Revenue by the Florida Legislature during the 1999 legislative session. It was a part of the Florida Policy Exchange Center on Aging (FPECA), a Florida Board of Regents (BOR) Type 1 Research Institute. Florida State University was the host university for FPECA and the SDCA.
Subsequent to the dissolution of the BOR in 2001, FPECA and the SDCA merged with the Department of Gerontology and the Institute on Aging at the University of South Florida to for the School of Aging Studies.
The SDCA is a small unit. It has previously employed an assistant director. Currently it employs a full-time programmer/analyst and two part-time programmer/analysts. The SDCA has also employed graduate students as research assistants through its history, with the director serving on Ph.D. committees.
The primary stakeholders for the SDCA are Florida agencies providing subsidized care to older Floridians: Florida Medicaid at the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA).
